New Times is proud to celebrate the 16th-Annual New Times “Original” Beerfest on April 6, 2013 featuring a college basketball viewing area displaying the basketball championship games on large Jumbotron screens with high-tech sound systems. New Times Original Beerfest has grown over the last 15 years to be one of Downtown Fort Lauderdale’s biggest and most anticipated events. Riverwalk Fort Lauderdale, the Downtown Development Authority and the City of Fort Lauderdale are proud to partner with WAKA Social Sports to offer the new Riverwalk Dodgeball League. The games begin on Monday, February 25, and run through Monday, March 25, 2013. Games will be held Mondays during season at Huizenga Plaza. Players must be 21 years of age by the scheduled first week of games to join.

Come support the Riverwalk mission and get involved in all the wackiness while enjoying the downtown area. The Riverwalk Dodgeball League promises to be unique by offering special, “fun” rules geared towards players that want to let loose, have some fun, and focus on supporting a local non-profit organization.

WAKA uses only Rhino Skin super-soft dodgeballs for outdoor dodgeball leagues. We will play by the NADA (National Amateur Dodgeball Association) rules with a few local modifications. The official “watering hole” for the Riverwalk Dodgeball League will be Briny’s Riverfront Pub.

The American Institute of Wine & Food (AIWF) and Riverwalk Fort Lauderdale present the 9th Annual Culinary School BBQ Battle on Sunday, January 27, 2013 from 5:00 PM to 8:00 PM, at Esplanade Park in downtown Fort Lauderdale. The event will offer guests barbeque brisket and side dishes from five competing culinary schools, plus food sampling stations from area restaurants and a variety of wine, beer and spirits, all river side in Fort Lauderdale.

Reservations are $50.00 per person pre-event. Online reservations will end at 11:59 PM on Saturday, January 26, 2013. We do not issue actual tickets, all reservations made will be listed by name and amount of reservations purchased at the event registration desk. For each reservation, all attending guests must be present at the same time for entrance to the event. Day of Event reservations will only be accepted at the event and if available, cost is $60.00 per person. Visa, Master Card, Discover and American Express are accepted, NO CASH! Website will indicate if reservations are still available day of event.

Proceeds from this event support Riverwalk Fort Lauderdale and The American Institute of Wine & Food’s scholarship fund and signature Days of Taste program. Both Riverwalk and AIWF are non-profit 501(c)3 organizations.

Culinary School Participants: Johnson & Wales University, Le Cordon Bleu, Florida International University, The Art Institute and Miami Culinary Institute will create their best version of BBQ brisket with side dishes.  The schools will be judged by our professional panel for best brisket, best side dish and grand champion. In addition we will offer a people’s choice award selected by our attending guests. All schools will receive equal scholarships at the event, but only one will walk away as Grand Champion

Additional restaurant participants: Whole Foods, Roho Kitchen, The Chimney House Grill & Café, Luigi’s Coal Oven Pizza, Sparky’s Roadside Barbeque, The Whole Enchilada – Fresh Mexican Grill, Susie’s Scrumptious Sweets and Rice & Dough.
