Don Matthews, organizer of the CrawDebauchery Food & Music Festival, vividly recalls when tens of thousands of Cajun Zydeco dancers would flock to South Florida on an annual basis to celebrate at the now defunct Cajun Zydeco Crawfish Festival in Fort Lauderdale.

“It really was incredible,” said Matthews. “Members of Cajun Zydeco dance societies would come here from all over to celebrate at that festival making it the leading destination of its kind in the country. We certainly want to attract those people back to the area.”

The third annual CrawDebauchery Food & Music Festival is scheduled for April 2-3 at the Pompano Beach Amphitheater field. Featuring New Orleans crawfish and music, the festival has expanded to two days this year.

In addition to a massive crawfish boil, food and art vendors, the festival will feature top tier musicians over the two days to include the headliner – Galactic – on Saturday night.

“We’re going to be spotlighting different types of Louisiana music at CrawDebauchery – Cajun and Zydeco – as well as other forms that have emerged, such as jam, funk, blues and jazz,” said Matthews. “We will have a traditional hardwood, shaded dance floor and we’ll feature dance lessons periodically on each day with famed instructor Jerry Carrier.”
