A free Community Forum for Suicide Prevention Awareness. Presented by the League of Women Voters of Broward County. A panel of experts will discuss how to identify red flags for suicidal thoughts and depression. A question-and-answer session will follow.

Panelists:
Barbara Markley is an attorney and mediator and a gun safety advocate. She is the Co-Chair of the Gun Safety Committee for the League of Women Voters of Broward County and helped design the Lock it Up community safety project.

Marla Berger is a Licensed Mental Health Counselor, Registered Art Therapist, Registered Play Therapist and Advanced Certified in Equine Assisted Psychotherapy.

Joel Smith retired from Broward County Public schools, where he was the Director of Dropout Prevention / Alternative Education, Mr. Joel Smith joined The Florida Initiative for Suicide Prevention [FISP] as it’s Program Director.

Gloria Lewis, DNP,RN, Lead Suicide Prevention Coordinator
U.S. Department of Veterans Affairs, Miami VA Healthcare Systems. Gloria Lewis was the catalyst for the Lock it Up Program that has distributed 14,000 free gun locks in the community in partnership with the League of Women Voters.

Thomas Thompson is the Veteran Services Manager at SoFIA (South Florida Institute on Aging), and a 24 year Army veteran (Retired Sergeants Major) who has a Master’s in Rehabilitation Counseling.
