A talking ape wearing a chic Chanel suit walks onto the stage . . . This is not the lead in line of a joke, but, in fact, how the dark comedy PRECIOUS LITTLE begins. Don’t let this diminutive title fool you: this funny, taut, touching play packs a punch and pulls none in its exploration of themes such as the universal search for connection, compassion, and understanding; language barriers and the power of the ineffable; and motherhood after 40—an increasingly common scenario for women in the 21st century.

PRECIOUS LITTLE centers on Brodie (played by Sabrina Lynn Gore), a linguist who learns unsettling news about the baby that she carries. Unable to obtain comfort from her girlfriend, Dre (played by Stephon Duncan), instead, Brodie surprisingly finds solace in the elderly speaker of a vanishing language and a gorilla at the zoo (played by Carol Sussman). Performed by three actresses, two of whom play nine different characters between them, PRECIOUS LITTLE, is at once highly theatrical and completely grounded. Audiences can expect to laugh, think, and even shed a tear or two. In Thinking Cap Theatre’s production, a regional premiere, Nicole Stodard will direct, accompanied by designers Alyiece-Moretto-Watkins and Bree-Anna Obst.

Madeleine George, the author of PRECIOUS LITTLE, is also the wife of fellow actress and playwright Lisa Kron, who wrote the lyrics and book for FUN HOME, the 2015 recipient of numerous Tony Awards. A 2014 Pulitzer Prize Finalist and Outer Critics Circle John Gassner Award Winner, George has already demonstrated that she can hold her own intellectually and creatively in her life partnership. That said, together George and Kron comprise one of the most talented couples in American theatre today; their plays are truly ‘must sees.’
