Artists of all types thrive on an appreciative audience and, even for visual artists, part of their professional development experience includes displaying their work, interacting with inquisitive art lovers and demonstrating or discussing their unique perspectives and techniques.

Local ArtServe member artists will get that chance when “Memories and Revolutions” opens there on Thursday, July 14 with a reception from 6:30 to 9 p.m.

The exhibition runs through September 23.  ArtServe is located at 1350 E. Sunrise Blvd. in Fort Lauderdale.

“Memories and Revolutions,” curated by ArtServe’s Sophie Bonet, features 16 artists in a mixed-media presentation with painting, photography and sculpture of their expressions of time, space, memory, nature and technology.

“Guests will be immersed in multiple and diverse currents revolving around a collective narrative that questions the existing reality in a context of artistic, social and cultural transformation,” Bonet said.

“Memories and Revolutions” features artists from all walks of life.  They include:

• sculptor and bas relief artist Deborah Perlman, whose paper abstracts depict a variety of real and imagined spaces;
• 40-year veteran Sheila Elias, whose works are housed in the art collections of celebrities and society members worldwide and reflect her social consciousness that often combines with her fascination with technology;
• Guillermo Gambini, a former Venezuelan federal judge-turned-artist, who has created a multi-media installation on the dangers of stifling free speech;
• Sara Schesser Bartra, a microbiologist, who uses glassy jewels, mixed media and scientific instruments to represent microscopic organisms in macroscopic form;
• Photographer Paul McDermott, known for his emotional photos of marine life; and
• metal sculptor Yenny Carruyo, who infuses the illusion of motion and transformation into stationary objects.
