Samoylova, is a Russian-born, artist who alternates between observational photography and studio practice. Beginning in October 2024 her exhibition “Floridas: Anastasia Samoylova and Walker Evans” will be featured at The Metropolitan Museum of Art in New York City until May 2025; coinciding with the release of her comprehensive monograph, “Adaptation,” published by Thames & Hudson. The exhibition brings together photographs and paintings of Florida by two artists of different generations who have sought to understand its complexity and contradictions.
Samoylova relocated to Miami in 2016 where she has focused on documenting environmental threats facing flood-risked communities. This led to her first major monograph, FloodZone. Her ongoing “Floridas” project presents a multifaceted portrait of the state’s cultural and political identity, while her Image Cities series explores urban landscapes worldwide. Samoylova’s recent accolades include a shortlist nomination for the Deutsche Börse Photography Foundation prize as well as prestigious awards such as the Ellies Creator Award. Her works are held in renowned collections, including those of The Metropolitan Museum of Art and Pérez Art Museum Miami…
