From the moment Edison’s light bulb first flickered to life, one truth became clear: generating and delivering energy reliably and affordably is anything but simple. That challenge has only grown more complex. Today’s energy providers must balance rising demand, evolving technologies, regulatory requirements, environmental responsibility, cybersecurity risks, and consumer costs—all while delivering value to investors. It’s a modern high-wire act.

When it works, no one notices.
When it doesn’t, everyone does.

Florida has been fortunate. Its energy providers have largely met this challenge, delivering reliable and cost-effective power in a rapidly growing state. But that success raises important questions: what’s working here, what can be improved, and what comes next?

This forum will explore those questions and more, offering a forward-looking perspective on the future of energy in Florida.

Moderated by Juliet Murphy Roulhac, Senior Director of External Affairs for Florida Power & Light Company, this panel will examine the state’s energy strategy through the lenses of reliability, innovation, and long-term sustainability.

Panelists will discuss the essential role of traditional utilities in maintaining grid stability, while also exploring emerging technologies such as marine energy and small modular reactors (SMRs). The conversation will address the regulatory and infrastructure dynamics shaping Florida’s energy transition, along with the opportunities and challenges ahead.

Featured perspectives include:

  • Florida Power & Light on base-load generation, grid management, and solar investment
  • State Representative Chip LaMarca on recent legislative and policy developments
  • Nick Loris of C3 Solutions on national energy trends and next-generation nuclear
  • Gabriel Alsenas of FAU’s Southeast National Marine Renewable Energy Center (SNMREC) on advancements in marine energy

Together, this discussion will provide a comprehensive view of how Florida is positioning itself to meet growing energy demands in an increasingly complex and changing landscape
