Miami City Ballet begins is season with Concerto Barocco, a signature George Balanchine ballet, set to Bach’s glorious “Double Violin Concerto in D Minor.” The program features the return after nearly ten years of the audience favorite Company B, a Paul Taylor work set to popular ‘40s hits like “Boogie Woogie Bugle Boy” and “Rum and Coca-Cola” sung by the Andrews Sisters. Program One concludes with “Tchaikovsky Piano Concerto No.2,” a thrilling masterpiece that pays homage to the spirit and grandeur of imperial St. Petersburg which Balanchine described as a contemporary tribute to Petipa, the father of classical ballet, and to Tchaikovsky, his greatest composer.
