Firebird
Balanchine / Stravinsky
Alive with color, excitement, and spectacular effects, Firebird is a fantastical and thrilling fairy tale about magic, love, danger and liberation. This reimagined Miami City Ballet production was the smash hit of our 2019/20 season and the only Balanchine Firebird performed outside of New York City Ballet.

While out hunting, Prince Ivan strays into a mystical forest where he encounters the exotic, immortal Firebird who gives him an enchanted feather that will summon her when he is in dire need. When Ivan falls in love with a beautiful Princess who is under the spell of the evil sorcerer Kastchei, he calls the Firebird, and the battle between good and evil is joined.

Concerto DSCH
Ratmansky / Shostakovich
With its thrilling Shostakovich score and dramatic texture, Alexei Ratmansky’s acclaimed 2008 work Concerto DSCH creation puts on full display the dancers’ mastery of classical technique and contemporary sensibility. The ballet’s title refers to a musical motif used by Shostakovich to represent himself, with four notes that, when written in German notation, stand in for his initials in the German spelling (D. Sch.).

World Premiere of Analogo
Armas / Aukai / Miss Meadow / Nina Simone
Born and raised in Miami, this is up-and-coming choreographer Margarita Armas’s second commission for Miami City Ballet. Margarita was featured in the second season of the Teen Vogue’s Strictly Ballet Series and was also the recipient of the Silver Award in the 2018 YoungArts Ballet Category.

World Premiere of PAGANINI, In Play
Verzola / Paganini
Rising star and Miami City Ballet School resident choreographer Durante Verzola presents his third world premiere for Miami City Ballet. His work has been described as “sharp and witty…so vibrant it is like a celebration of classicism and vitality…he continues to present classical ballet vocabulary in thrilling ways” (Philadelphia Dance).
