Jewels has long been described as a perfect night at the theater. Inspired by a visit to famed jewelers Van Cleef and Arpels, Balanchine created three unique mini-ballets that sweep you away to far-away times and cultures. Each distinctive ‘jewel’ enhances and complements the others, and the dancers shine like brilliant bursts of light. To see these three exquisite ballets in one evening is an unforgettable experience.
EMERALDS
Gliding to Fauré’s dreamy melody, the dancers appear in a lush evocation of a misty forest, seemingly transported from the French romantic era of the early 19th century. RUBIES Rubies is quintessentially American – pulsating with sass, wit and sophistication. The dancers’ hip-swiveling freshness and Stravinsky’s jazzy score conjures the vibrancy and exuberance of a late-night club.
DIAMONDS
Diamonds is pure, beautiful classical ballet and a tribute to the grandeur of Imperial Russia. Tchaikovsky’s elegant symphony recalls vast landscapes of a majestic kingdom.
