Opening concert of the 25th Anniversary season of the Gold Coast Jazz Society “Gatsby Meets Ellington:  Jazz & Blues from the Classic Era” with Lavay Smith & Her Red Hot Skillet Lickers.

Lavay Smith is internationally recognized as The Queen of Classic Jazz & Blues in the authentic style of the 1940’s and 1950’s. Boasting a buoyant mix of boogie-woogie, jump blues, and sophisticated swing, Lavay and her Red Hot Skillet Lickers promise a vivacious opening for our 25th anniversary season. You’ll enjoy a jumpin’ jazz show featuring classic jazz and blues from the 20s-40s, with an emphasis on swing from the 30s and 40s, and the birth of R&B in the mid to late-40s. Lavay radiates “a lush vocal style recalling both Bessie Smith and Dinah Washington.” – Don Heckman, LA Time.
