New City Players will begin their seventh season of programming with a radio play adaptation of classic movie It’s A Wonderful Life, which means that the actors will perform live as if recording a radio play live on air and creating all the play’s sound effects themselves. The play tells the story of one Christmas Eve in the life of a down-on-his-luck George Bailey, who is considering taking his own life until a guardian angel appears to shift his perspective by showing him a world in which he had never been born. Not only is this timeless tale a perfect feel-good winter pick, it also offers us an essential reminder to appreciate what is truly important in our lives and of the impact of giving back.
In conjunction with the production, the company will also be hosting a community forum and weekly post-show talkbacks to further explore the many timely issues addressed in the play. It’s A Wonderful Life will be directed by Producing Artistic Director Timothy Mark Davis with assistance from Associate Artistic Director Elizabeth Price. The cast will include Marcos Fuentes, Marlo Rodriguez, Carlos Alayeto, Caroline Dopson, and Noah Levine.
The show previews on December 1 and will run from December 2-18 (Thursdays-Saturdays at 8pm; Saturdays and Sundays at 3pm) and will be held at Island City Stage (2304 N. Dixie Hwy, Wilton Manors, 33305). Tickets are $35 for adults, $30 for seniors (65+), and $20 for students (under 25 with ID), with the exception of Thursday night performances, on which $20 tickets will be available for all, and opening night, on which an additional $5 per ticket will include a post-show reception. They can be purchased at www.newcityplayers.org/season or by calling (954)-376-6114.
