Fort Lauderdale Beach continues to make big moves as it embarks on the new year, starting 2020 on a proverbial high note with the return of the free-to-the-public Friday Night Sound Waves on Friday, January 24, 2020. Debuting at its new home at Las Olas Oceanside Park, located on the southwest corner of Las Olas and A1A, the series opens with South Florida’s preeminent R&B/Motown band, Pocket Change, and continues its run every Friday night from 6:30 PM to 9:30 PM through June 26, 2020.
Leading off the activities on Friday night, a new Music & Makers Market will operate from 4 PM – 10 PM and provide beachgoers an opportunity to shop and engage with local artists displaying a mix of handmade and homemade goods. Acoustic musicians, live art, and street performances will provide pre-concert entertainment from 4 PM – 6 PM. Beachside restaurants participating in Picnics at the Park will rotate through on select evenings offering light fare and refreshments at 5 PM.
Throughout the Friday Night Sound Waves season, pop-up events, such as Raised In The 9 over Super Bowl weekend, a Valentine’s Day Vow Renewal (Feb 14) and Spring Solstice Wellness Day (March 21), will provide a little something extra for everyone. Expanded programming is planned for Pride of the Americas 2020 featuring bandleader and renowned percussionist, Tito Puente, Jr. (April 24), Fort Lauderdale Air Show Pilots Welcome Party (May 1) with a Tribute to Asbury Park performed by The Livesays, a special Mother’s Day Concert (May 8) with the ever-popular, School of Rock, and Memorial Day Weekend (May 22) concert featuring Classic Rock Therapy.
Widely recognized for the quality of artists and variety of music genres, Friday Night Sound Waves line-up features favorite years-past performers along with new performers nominated by concertgoers who took part in an online poll.
