The Leukemia & Lymphoma Society’s (LLS) Man & Woman of the Year campaign is a very unique way to support the fight against blood cancers. Hundreds of men and women in cities across the U.S. engage in a friendly and spirited competition each year to earn the title of Man or Woman of the Year. A 10-week fundraising campaign, this year’s 2017 Man & Woman of the Year efforts officially begin with a Kickoff on March 23rd and concludes at the 2017 Fort Lauderdale Man & Woman of the Year Grand Finale on June 2nd.
All candidates vying for the title of Man & Woman of the Year agree to utilize their leadership abilities to conduct their own fundraising campaigns for LLS. Each dollar raised on behalf of LLS counts as one vote. The male and female candidates with the most votes are named the chapter’s Man & Woman of the Year.
Candidates raise money in honor of LLS’s Boy & Girl of the Year. These honored patient heroes are recognized for their strength and winning attitudes. Each becomes a spokesperson for the thousands of patients that have been helped by LLS’s patient services and research.
Candidates are nominated by a selection committee made up of past candidates, local LLS supporters and board members. Candidates typically have a personal connection to LLS or a willingness to learn about it; are self-motivators, enthusiastic, well-networked and success driven; have an interest in increasing public awareness of blood cancers; and have a track record of success in business and community endeavors.
