Cultivating Community and Bridging Divides

When

1:00 pm - 2:00 pm

Event Type

Join the Urban Institute and the John S. and James L. Knight Foundation for a discussion about what attaches people to the places where they live. Amid the COVID-19 pandemic and a national reckoning with racial injustice, we have become even more acutely aware of our needs for connection and quality of life. Deep racial and economic inequities affect how Americans experience their communities.

Our discussion will focus on the placemaking and equity insights from the 2019 Community Ties study, a survey of over 11,000 Americans living in metro areas across the US and in the 26 communities where Knight operates. The conversation will also reflect on policies and practices needed to ensure communities cultivate attachment, belonging, and equity for all residents.
