Codebreaker
The Alan Turing Story
Scott AuCoin, Conductor
James McCarthy’s acclaimed cantata dramatically recounts key episodes in the life of Alan Turing, the brilliant codebreaker whose decryption work saved countless lives during World War II. With contrasting energy and pathos, the score portrays Turing as both hero and martyr, a gay man of complexity inseparable from his genius who was destroyed by the unforgiving homophobia of his time.
