October is Domestic Violence Awareness Month. Domestic Violence takes a toll on our community. It is responsible for 2 million injuries and 1,300 deaths each year in the US. It affects more women than breast cancer, ovarian cancer and lung cancer combined. It affects men, women, children, and the elderly. It affects pets, the rich, and the poor. It affects our community.
Please join us for a Candlelight Vigil and Processional at Victoria Park (at the corner of E. Broward Blvd. and Victoria Park Road) to pay respect to those who have lost their lives to domestic violence and to show our support to those who have yet to escape.
Enjoy music, write on the memory wall, visit the Forget Me Not Advocacy Group and Women in Distress tables for information on domestic violence services in Broward County, and help raise awareness in Fort Lauderdale.
We will gather at Victoria Park Gazebo before walking a short route through the surrounding to raise awareness for this all encompassing issue.
Parking is available at 1401 East Broward Blvd., with a short walk east on Broward Blvd. to the park.
