This Sensory Inclusive Performance is intended to create a welcoming and supportive environment for children and adults on the autism spectrum as well as individuals with other sensitivity issues or developmental disabilities. To create a sensory-Inclusive setting, slight adjustments have been made to the production including reduced sound levels, no flashing or strobe lights and minimal special effects. An area adjacent to the theater has been designated as the ABA Centers of Florida Sensory Quiet Room with specially trained therapist to provide audience support.
Brazilian Voices, well known for its work in arts & healing, will create a sensory-inclusive performance of music featuring familiar songs intended to soothe and inspire. The repertoire includes Bossa Nova favorites like “The Girl from Ipanema,” “Summer Samba” (“Samba de verão”), and “Mas Que Nada,” American classics “Fly Me to the Moon,” “Isn’t She Lovely,” and “Happy” along with medleys of popular Brazilian & American songs with a soft samba sound.
This one-hour musical experience takes place in an intimate setting and features the voices of the group’s award-winning female singers, light percussion and guitar. To encourage participation, Brazilian Voices will share egg-shaped musical shakers with everyone in the audience who would like to join in. The shakers are yours to keep as a memento and to carry the music home. Sensory-inclusive performances create a welcoming and supportive environment for all.
Lap Tickets are available for purchase for children 12 months and under only at the Broward Center’s AutoNation Box Office. Everyone in the theater must have a ticket.
The Broward Center’s sensory-inclusive programming is made possible through the generous support of ABA Centers of Florida, The Batchelor Foundation, BBX Capital Foundation, The Gore Family Memorial Foundation Trust, Nicklaus Children’s Health System, and The Taft Foundation. Special thanks to UM-NSU CARD for their in-kind support.
