The Power Point Presentation by Bonnet House Curator Denyse Cunningham is called: “Bonnet House Beach: a small stretch on the barrier island and the people who made it their own.”  It is composed of 71 slides of historic pictures and maps and covers a lot more than just Bonnet House.

History matters.  Our view of history shapes the way we view the present and therefore, it dictates what answers we offer for existing problems and this fascinating glimpse of the Bonnet House is a perfect case in point,” Dr. Claire Crawford pointed out. The Pioneer Women’s organization is made up of descendants of pioneers or women who have resided in Fort Lauderdale for 50 years or longer.  Dr. Crawford is the Event Chair, working with Co-Chairs Constance Ruppendener, Patsy West and Susan Gillis.

Our History:  The first “Pioneers’ Reunion” was held on Monday, April 7, 1958 at the Governors’ Club Hotel.  About 120 women who helped build this community enjoyed lunch together at the suggestion of Ford Jeter Brown and Mrs. Richard Hood.  At that time, the gathering was officially christened “Pioneers’ Reunion” and was to be held each year on Easter Monday.
