Why Riverwalk…From our Membership

Membership TestimonialsUpon moving to Fort Lauderdale in 2009, I was looking for ways to get involved in the community but wanted something different than the previous organizations I belonged to in North Carolina and South Carolina. I decided to join the Riverwalk Trust since it allows me the opportunity to become more involved in supporting positive growth in and around downtown Fort Lauderdale as well as connecting to the New River. The Riverwalk Trust shares a similar mission with the company that I work for in that we want to grow the communities in which live. I have the opportunity every day to look out my office window and see what Fort Lauderdale is all about … whether it is a cruise ship heading out to sea, planes taking off to destinations unknown, or watching the bridge go up as another yacht is passing through the New River. This is Fort Lauderdale. As an avid boater, my husband and I enjoy cruising the New River to attend Riverwalk Trust sponsored events along Riverwalk and Esplanade Park. Where else can one go to enjoy some of the hottest restaurants or performances at the Broward Center of Performing Arts or listen to jazz music on a Sunday afternoon, all by boat! I encourage people to take a walk along the Riverwalk to enjoy the restaurants, listen to music culture and all the beauty it has to offer“.  Lacey R. Brisson | Commercial Sales and Marketing Officer, BB&T, Florida & Texas Regions | Corporate Trustee

“Riverwalk is one of Florida’s great public spaces. The New River was the very reason our city was formed, and it continues as a vital economic pulse that draws us to its edge. Riverwalk Trust activities reconnect our city with its roots and helps us appreciate this waterway of extraordinary beauty, commerce and culture. The Trust celebrates our life on and by the River as a connection to past and future generations — an essential element that defines us and binds us as a community.”   Sam Poole | Berger Singerman

As a native Floridian, I am happy to call Downtown Fort Lauderdale my home. I joined the Riverwalk Trust a few years ago as a way to meet many of the people who work hard to bring life to the Riverwalk and to support their many efforts to protect one of Fort Lauderdale’s best resources. I am honored to now be on the board of directors and am actively involved in helping to plan the events and activations that will bring more residents and tourists down to Riverwalk to see all of the new and exciting things going on along and even ‘on’ the river! Riverwalk Trust is a great networking organization for young professionals to really get involved and to make a significant investment in our community for only $100 per year.”  Michelle Klymko | Becker & Poliakoff

“Riverwalk Trust spearheads so many beneficial events and activities for Fort Lauderdale, from generating business for the local establishments with great events such as Burger Battle and Bus Loop to keeping the community informed and healthy with free fitness programs along the New River. However, the most important thing that Riverwalk Trust does is build a community of caring residents. I am proud to be a member of an organization that cares so much for its community and fronts programs that boost our city and Downtown area today while driving future programs to ensure a Fort Lauderdale that thrives.”   Marilyn Oliva | MPower Philosophy, LLC

“We love living Downtown because we can walk to an abundance of restaurants, bars and events. We both enjoy strolling along the Riverwalk on weekends, sometimes listening to jazz over a brunch or just people watching. It’s clean, safe and very pretty. You can feel the vibe of our unique heritage along the New River. I can’t imagine the river Downtown without the Riverwalk. No visit to our Downtown loft by friends from up north is complete without partaking in all the Riverwalk has to offer … whether it be libations or entertainment!”   Bruce Johnson | NTS Development CompanyTarpon River

Follow the Yellow Brick Road…,” as they sing in the Wizard of Oz. In this case it is the Red Brick Road, and the Wizard is the dynamic organization that is Riverwalk Fort Lauderdale. We are drawn along the New River from Las Olas and Stranahan House to the Broward Center for Performing Arts. As a catering and events professional, I have the honor of creating events all along the Riverwalk area, at the Broward Center for Performing Arts, the Opera Center, the Historic New River Inn and many of the new luxury condominiums that now line the river so elegantly. As a company we have been able to utilize Esplanade Park with its gazebo for wedding ceremonies and have participated in many of the community events held there. As a new trustee of the Riverwalk Fort Lauderdale, I have found a group of caring, community-minded individuals that are committed to the preservation, progress and promotion of the Riverwalk area. Since moving from New York City to Fort Lauderdale almost 20 years ago, I have witnessed the dramatic beautification and resourcing that has taken place in these last 20 years along what is now so well known as the Riverwalk. What we have now is a place, a park and walk, and an organization that promotes the use of these areas by bringing people together. It is about incorporating the past, present and future, together with an ever-growing group of dynamic professionals is what makes up Riverwalk Fort Lauderdale. I am proud to be a member.”  Marci Boland | Director of Catering/Executive Chef L’Hermitage Catering and Organic Catering and Events | Individual Trustee
