Museum of Art/ Fort Lauderdale. 1 E Las Olas Blvd. (954) 462-0222. This exhibit is a major retrospective of Norman Rockwell’s work, covering the full sweep of the beloved artist and icon-maker’s 65-year career. Through the run of this major exhibition, The Museum of Art / Fort Lauderdale and Nova Southeastern University’s Alvin Sherman Library, Research and Information Technology Center will be hosting numerous Norman Rockwell-related events every week that will celebrate the holidays and the literary, visual and performance arts. “American Chronicles” showcases Rockwell’s unforgettable American panorama, from scenes of childhood innocence — and gentle depictions of innocence lost — to the wrenching “Murder in Mississippi” (1965), the artist’s response to the slaying of three civil rights workers. The exhibition features more than 70 works from the Norman Rockwell Museum’s collections, including oil paintings and preparatory sketches, as well as archival photographs and documents that illuminate the artist’s process. It is accompanied by an illustrated catalog featuring in-depth scholarship by longtime Curator of Rockwell Collections Linda Szekely Pero, now Curator Emerita. $
